At AmSty, we believe great leadership is about demonstrating excellence, guiding and empowering others, and instilling a vision for a more sustainable future. That's why we're proud to announce that Christina Guice, Joliet plant manager, and Diana Rodriguez, Polystyrene Sales Director for Latin America, have been named 2025 Women Breaking the Mold award winners by Plastics News.
This prestigious recognition celebrates women who are making a lasting impact in the plastics industry, and Christina and Diana embody that spirit every day in two different, but impactful, ways.
Christina Guice: Leading with Purpose at the Joliet Plant
As plant manager at AmSty's Joliet facility, Christina leads a complex operation that produces high-impact polystyrene – a material found in refrigerator linings, party cups and food and medical packaging. With 32 employees and one contractor under her leadership, Christina oversees every aspect of the plant's daily functions, including operations, EH&S, mechanical integrity, quality, cost control and customer service.
Christina's approach is hands-on. She's not just managing operations – she's setting a tone for open communication, teamwork and outstanding work.
"I make it my business to know everything that's going on," she said. "And I make an effort to talk to every person, every day."
Christina is also proud of helping to break the long-held mold that women, especially minority women, don't lead in manufacturing.
"There are so many women in engineering, but so few go into manufacturing. I want to help change that," she said.
AmSty President and CEO Dr. Randy Pogue, who nominated Christina, admires her energy, discipline and integrity.
"She has successfully weathered major operational challenges while upholding the highest standards in safety, performance and team morale," he said. "She's also a passionate advocate for sustainability, especially when it comes to circular recycling of polystyrene. Christina is a leader to watch and a role model for the next generation."
